International Baccalaureate®

Ascot International School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and is authorised to deliver the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programmes (PYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). We are currently in candidacy for the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and by year 2024 will be a fully authorised 3 programme IB World School. Doing so, this will make Ascot one of the very few international schools in Bangkok to be an IB Continuum School.

Why choose an IB education?

An IB education teaches students how to learn and not what to learn as they develop strong academic, social and emotional characteristics. They are also likely to perform well academically – often better than students on other curricula models. As they grow and develop, the world around them is also changing.  In order for our students to be world ready when they graduate, they need an educational framework that prepares them to enter an ever changing world with the skills to adapt and succeed.  The IB provides that framework by embedding key elements across all three programmes: The Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).

Inquiry

An IB education is an Inquiry-based education, teaching students to have curiosity and the agency to explore, discuss, and examine the world around them. It provides students with a sense of independence and empowers them to be lifelong learners.

Inquiry is a dynamic process of being open to wonder and puzzlement and coming to know and understand the world. As such, it is a stance that pervades all aspects of life and is essential to the way in which knowledge is created. Inquiry is based on the belief that understanding is constructed in the process of people working and conversing together as they pose and solve the problems, make discoveries and rigorously testing the discoveries that arise in the course of shared activity.

Inquiry is a study into a worthy question, issue, problem or idea. It is the authentic, real work that someone in the community might tackle. It is the type of work that those working in the disciplines actually undertake to create or build knowledge. Therefore, inquiry involves serious engagement and investigation and the active creation and testing of new knowledge.

International mindedness

IB education also teaches students to be global citizens. It teaches learners to be culturally aware and accepting of culture differences and belief systems. As Ascot is a multicultural school, students learn to acknowledge, respect and recognise cultural differences and beliefs. In schools international mindedness is fostered and developed through the Learner Profile.

The Learner Profile attributes describe a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success.

They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them.

Students learn how to learn

The IB ensures that learning is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant. The IB approaches to learning skills (ATL) are grounded in the belief that learning how to learn is fundamental to a student’s life in and out of a school context. In broad terms, IB programmes support learners in developing:

  – Thinking skills

  – Communication skills

  – Research skills

  – Self-management skills

  – Social skills

The approaches to learning and associated sub-skills support students of all ages in being agentic and self-regulated learners.

At Ascot International School, safeguarding the safety and wellbeing of every child is our unwavering commitment.
