IBDP

IB Diploma Programme

At Ascot, we offer a carefully selected range of IB subjects to support students’ academic goals, university aspirations, and personal interests.

Students study six subjects in total, choosing three at Higher Level, taught for four hours per week, and three at Standard Level, taught for three hours per week. This structure allows students to specialise in areas of strength while maintaining a well-rounded education.

Programme Description

The DP is internationally recognized as representing one of the highest standards in university preparatory education. More than 1,000 colleges and universities in North America have recognition policies on how they weigh it in admissions, advanced standing, college credit and scholarships.

IB Diploma IBDP Subjects

IBDP students take six subjects across key fields of learning, ensuring a balanced and academically rigorous experience. This combination helps students strengthen their knowledge, explore new interests, and prepare for future university study.

Skills for Success

The IBDP builds essential skills for modern learners. Students learn how to research, collaborate, communicate effectively, and manage their time. These skills help them succeed not only in school but in university and future careers.

The IBDP Core

The Core connects everything students learn. TOK encourages them to question how knowledge works, the Extended Essay develops advanced research abilities, and CAS inspires them to take part in creative, active, and service-based experiences that support personal growth.

How is the teaching and learning method organized in the IBDP?

Teaching and learning in the IB Diploma Programme is built around inquiry, critical thinking, and real-world application. Instead of memorising facts, students explore meaningful questions, analyse information, and apply ideas across subjects. Teachers design lessons that challenge students to think independently while offering guidance and support along the way.

Learning is organised through:

  • Inquiry-based teaching – Students investigate concepts and issues, ask questions, and develop deeper understanding through exploration and research.
  • Concept-driven learning – Lessons focus on big ideas that connect across subjects, helping students see how knowledge is linked.
  • Skills development – Students strengthen key skills such as research, communication, collaboration, organisation, and reflection, which prepare them for university.
  • Balanced assessment – Learning is assessed through a mix of coursework, projects, labs, essays, presentations, and final examinations. This ensures students can show their understanding in different ways.
  • Holistic education – The DP Core (TOK, Extended Essay, CAS) encourages students to reflect, act responsibly, and grow personally and academically.

Overall, DP teaching and learning aims to create confident, curious, engaged learners who can think critically, solve problems, and thrive in university and beyond.
