ENVIRONMENT

Our open plan classrooms allow students to explore and encourage child-driven learning. Space is utilised to serve many different functions throughout the year. Our classrooms also encourage students to have agency (ownership) and autonomy (independence), and place the child at the center of the learning experience, not the teacher.

IB Programme

Early Years at Ascot follows the IB PYP, which focuses on inquiry, concept-driven learning. What is unique about Ascot is our emphasis on HOW students are taught, versus “what” students are taught. As a school, Ascot focuses on the development of the child as a whole, who is an engaged inquirer, demonstrating agency for learning in and outside of the classroom.

INQUIRY BASED

Inquiry builds upon a child’s natural curiosity for the world around them. At Ascot International School, we encourage and nurture this curiosity. Inquiry encourages students to come up with their own questions, teaches them to explore various approaches and be active participants in their learning.

CONCEPT BASED

As today’s world is constantly changing, what we know now might not be applicable in the near future. Concept-based approach teaches students the ability to view the world with a flexible mind. While we can’t possibly teach everything, we can teach big ideas that are the framework to study everything. Content can change, but concepts stay the same.

Purpose-built Play Area

Our Early Years building has big, open beautiful learning areas for our students. Ascot hired a specialized environmental architect to design the play area to become an additional learning area for our students. They have the opportunity to:

  • climb, swing, slide and move
  • ride bikes, tricycles, and scooters
  • dig in the garden, plant flowers and vegetables, and learn about nature
  • play in the sandpit, dig in the mud pit and create imaginary games
  • play in the outdoor kitchen and/or paint and draw
  • swim & play (EY swimming pool)

Our outdoor learning space has a permanent outside classroom so teachers are able to take lessons outside and students can enjoy the environment.
