  CIS/WASC Accreditation

Ascot International School (AIS) is currently in the process of gaining accreditation from The Council of International Schools (CIS) and The Western Association for Schools and Colleges (WASC). The accreditation process has two overall aims:

  • To encourage school improvement and to foster excellence through on-going self-study and peer review.
  • To award recognition to those schools that provide an educational programme of high quality which is based upon a clearly defined Philosophy and Objectives, suitable for their unique school population, and which meets the demanding standards drawn up by CIS.
CIS Guide to School Evaluation and Accreditation 7th Edition

Here at AIS we believe that achieving these aims will help to create the ideal learning environment for your child. It is a ten year cyclical process that is constantly evaluating and assisting the school in maintaining academic excellence. After a Preliminary Visit by CIS/WASC, the school undertakes a rigorous two-year Self-Study. This is a reflective process and involves assessing how we meet the CIS/WASC standards in the following areas:

1.  Philosophy and Objectives
2.  Curriculum
3.  Governance and Management
4.  Staff
5.  Student Support Services
6.  Resources
7.  Student and Community Life

The Self-Study culminates with an external assessment by the Visiting Team. This group of peers from member schools, reports on how the school meets the CIS/WASC standards, with commendations or recommendations. The Visiting Team report is sent to the Board of Trustees of the Council of International Schools in Madrid, Spain. The Board will make the decision to award accreditation, award accreditation with specific qualifications, postpone accreditation or withhold accreditation.

  Team Visit Report March 2009

In Term 2, 2009 we underwent a ‘Full Team Visit.’ The decision of the Board of Trustees of the Council of International Schools was to postpone CIS accreditation for the time-being. A special visit will take place in Term 2, 2011 to demonstrate how these issues have been addressed or are being addressed:

1.
Curriculum
2.
Governance and Management
3.
General Administration and operations

"The readers of the Visiting Team report commented that the school does indeed demonstrate commitment to high quality teaching and learning, and simply needs some extra time and leadership stability to complete ongoing work."

We were commended on:

1.
The great warmth and friendly atmosphere that permeates the school
2.
The excellent support the school enjoys from the parent community
3.
The teachers' commitment to teaching and learning
4.
The rigorous and thoughtful review of the Philosophy & Objectives
5.
The initiatives implemented by the Headmistress
6.
The efforts made to improve the area of Student Support Services
7.
The well maintained, clean and pleasant campus which provides a good learning environment

At Ascot we are seizing the opportunity to address the Special Issues and work towards achieving accreditation after the Special Visit, a path that many schools have successfully followed
